Bringing (Virtual) Community Together: GO Oakland’s New Website
Dear Oaklanders,
Thank you for visiting our new website in our soft-launch phase. Over the last year, in building this website, we set out to create a new resource for a new chapter in Oakland and at GO. We hope that you will find the information and resources you need about us, what’s happening in public education in Oakland, and how we can make a difference working together.
We’re at a critical moment in our city’s history. There’s much change — some incredibly exciting, some incredibly frustrating. Through it all, we have the power as a community to define what we want to be true in our great city and to come together to focus all that change towards that vision.
Like our city, our public education system is in a critical moment as well. To build the school system that all our students deserve, we must create some foundational clarity, such as how district and charter schools can not only coexist but better collaborate to serve all students, and address some urgent crises, such as our city’s teacher shortage.
Nothing divides a community quicker than uncertainty or crisis. Yet, pursuit of the clarity and solutions we need requires us more than ever to come together, to put ideologies and politics to the side, and to work hard together in service of all students and families.
In the weeks, months, and years to come, GO will be doubling down on our efforts to bring community together, to be an honest provider of the information you need about public education, and to help you create the necessary clarity and change we need.
We hope that this website is a reflection of those efforts. We hope that this website will:
- Provide you with the necessary information you need
- Be a platform for your voice on the education issues that matter most to you
- Serve as a catalyst for you to work with others in our community to create solutions for all our students
Please take a moment to explore our website and provide us any thoughts and feedback on how we can do a better job of making this website a valuable resource for you.
Thanks for all that you do!
Ash
