GO Advocates West Contra Costa is unapologetic about keeping students and families from historically underserved communities at the center of every conversation. We believe that the best way to endorse candidates for school board is with input from our network of West Contra Costa parents, educators, and advocates.
We send a questionnaire to each candidate that focuses on their policy positions and leadership experience. Once we collect completed versions from the candidates, the questionnaires are shared with our community, who then have a chance to provide feedback and let us know what they think.
We send invites to our community to attend a live interview day, where candidates are asked a series of questions in front of our community members. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s candidate interviews will be conducted virtually. Based on the candidates’ interviews, we collect feedback from our constituents in the room.
Based on the candidate questionnaires, candidate interviews, and feedback from our community, our Leadership Council votes on endorsements.
The year 2020 marks the first election cycle where school board candidates in West Contra Costa will be elected by wards, and not at-large. Because of this change, all five school board seats are now open.
In an effort to help our network get to know the candidates running for school board in advance of our endorsement event, we have provided their answers to our candidate questionnaire. Please note, while we sent the questionnaire to all candidates, some candidates chose not to respond.
